 A Tale of Two Chicks' Lives:
A Chick's Life™ founders, Rachel Bandarenko and Monica O'Donnell, have been friends for over twenty years. After a year spent together as freshman roommates at Hofstra University the pair went their separate ways. Rachel transferred to Bucknell University, graduating in 1988; while Monica finished her degree at Hofstra that same year. Although careers and family kept them in different states they maintained their friendship through the years.
Rachel spent the past twenty years in various roles, from a marketing and development professional to a community volunteer and a stay-at-home mom. Monica's career path lead her to Manhattan where she spent many years in finance. But as successful as she was…Monica always knew there was life beyond numbers.
Monica became a stay-at-home mom in the Fall of 2005. In the spring of 2006 Rachel dragged Monica to an annual "girls only" tennis camp with her girlfriends. (It was time to climb out from under the mountain of dirty diapers…and isn't that what girlfriends are for?) Girls being girls, everyone brought gifts. The following year the pair decided to create an original "tennis chicks" tee shirt, especially made for the group. As Rachel says, "Who knew an accountant could draw?" Monica had created the first chick - tennis chick.
The girls loved it and the rest is, as they say…herstory. A Chick's Life™ was hatched in March of 2007.
A Chick's Life™ is the product of friendship, fun and the desire to honor the wonderfully diverse life women lead today. The opportunities for women and girls to be who they want to be have never been greater. A Chick's Life™ celebrates the interests, athletic pursuits, diversity and strength of women and girls.
Smile… life is fun …it's a chick's life.
Rachel Bandarenko lives in Annapolis Maryland with her husband Pete and their three sons Max, Jack and Alex.
Monica O'Donnell lives in Brielle New Jersey with her husband Jay Feigus and their two daughters Julia and Kate.
